Shane Nigam plays an Anglo Indian in Qalb
A casting call video for the film Qalb that had Shane Nigam singing, enjoying the sunset in Alappuzha and asking for a cool mom, buddies and a girlfriend, had caught the attention of many.
The movie, which is directed by Sajid Yahiya, will see Shane playing a youth based in Alappuzha. “His character is an Anglo Indian with a Portuguese lineage. Kerala is home for a lot of such people whose great grandfathers belong to different cultures like Dutch, Portuguese and so on.

When we think of Alappuzha, the old port town, we only think of the backwaters and Kuttanad. There is another side to the place, with the beaches and shacks, and Qalb will explore that and its mixed culture,” says the filmmaker, who had previously helmed IDI and Mohanlal.
Further on the movie, Sajid says Qalb is all about relationships. “It’s about the different kinds of love - between a dad and son, lovers and friends. It is a spirited love story that explores each person’s perception of the same,” he says.
The basic thread of the film revolves around the concept of “Sufi stages of love”. “It says, if one has to fall in love, he should go through seven phases that include hub (attraction), uns (infatuation), ishq (love), aqeebath (trust), ibadath (worship), junoon (passion) and mauth (death). We have taken this concept and applied it to the lives of common people. The story will explore this aspect in different relationships,” Sajid says, adding that unlike his previous directorials that had a fun quotient, Qalb deals with a serious subject that touched upon the current socio-political scenario.
Siddique essays the father of Shane’s character in the film that is “an equally important role,” concludes Sajid.
