Sayanora's musical tribute to Kamal Haasan earns veteran actor's appreciation

Sayanora

paid a musical

tribute

to acting great Kamal Haasan to mark his remarkable

career

spanning 61 years and counting. The singer, songwriter and composer combined some of the most memorable tunes – Anbe Sivam, Edhan Nenjil from Kalaignan, Madaprave Vaa from Malayalam-hit Madanolsavam and Rum Bum Bum Arambum from Michael Madana Kamarajan – from his films. The songs, rendered in Sayanora’s sultry voice, span genres from romantic, to pathos and a peppy, dance number and she lends them a timeless quality; they could easily be hits from today, though even the most recent song –

Anbe Sivam

– is nearly two decades old.

Releasing the medley on social media, the singer wrote, “A small tribute to the legend Kamal sir who has been a critical part of Indian film fraternity for the past 61 years, going stronger than ever now! Kamal Hassan was always bold and stood out with his ideas, statements and execution of ideas. Rarely do we come across a multi-talented, equally good in all area persona and I'm lucky enough to have been bought up during his era growing up listening and eventually singing the songs from his films.”

The veteran actor-director responded to Sayanora’s tribute and sent a message saying he was “touched and scintillated by her song dedicated to me”. The singer responded with another thrilled message, “There are some moments that you wanna freeze. Yesterday was one such moment. Thank you Kamal Haasan, the legend, himself who commented on my tribute to him. Honoured, blessed and in awe!”
