Filmmaker Sanal Kumar Sasidharan has opened up about the inspiration behind making ‘

Chola

’, his last outing. The acclaimed filmmaker took to his social media and shared that a few films have influenced him in making ‘Chola’, but the movie that really pushed him to the edge of developing the idea for the film was the 1962 film ‘Knife in the water’, by Roman Polanski.

“If you ask which film inspired to make a particular film, I might not be able to tell you a single film. Because there are several chances of many kind of influences from many movies I watched and admired. But if you ask what movie triggered a thought about #Chola, I must say that it is #knifeinthewater by #romanpolanski Even though the initial script has undergone many changes including its philosophy. #sanalkumarsasidharan #jojugeorge #nimishasajayan,” Sanal Kumar Sasidharan said in his Instagram note.

'Chola' released in 2019, tells the story of an adolescent schoolgirl going to visit the city for the first time with her lover. Starring Joju George, Nimisha Sajayan and Akhil Vishwanath, the movie was screened at the Venice Film Festival, and Nimisha Sajayan also bagged the Kerala State film award for
