Celebrated art director of Indian cinema, Sabu Cyril, is a busier man lately. Amidst his already hectic schedule, he has signed up to play the lead role, as Jesus Christ, in director Deepeshs Pithavinum, Puthranum, Parishudhathmavinum. While Sabu has appeared in cameos before, this film will mark his first full-fledged role as the lead actor. I am more of a behind-the-scenes person. I am comfortable being there as an art director. Acting was never part of the plan, but I have decided to take this up as my friends have convinced me to do so, says Sabu. Incidentally, it was Malayalam film director V K Prakash who convinced him to take up this role. Prakash happens to essay the role of a priest in the same film.
Sabus last Mollywood outing was director Priyadarshans
Oru Marubhoomikkadha and he confesses that he hasnt watched the film yet. I hardly get time to watch movies. I do pick up DVDs, but going to cinema halls is definitely out of question, he says, adding, In fact, its Priyan who updates me on all that is happening in the Malayalam film industry. I dont even manage to catch the updates on the telly.
Pithavinum, Puthranum, Parishudhathmavinum is currently on at Kuttikanam. I dont have to worry too much about the lengthy dialogues as I have people around who can guide me through them, says Sabu.
