For Rimi Tomy, who has always admired AR Rahman’s body of work, and meeting him in person was a surreal experience for her. She managed to click a couple of selfies with him. “I don’t know whether a selfie can ever be more valuable than this moment in my lifetime.”
Recalling the chance encounter, Rimi said, “From childhood, I dreamed of seeing him one day — but never imagined it would happen like this. As soon as I got on the flight and took my seat, one person spoke to me and said, ‘My name is Karthik, I’m A. R. Rahman sir’s assistant. I’ve heard your song Kannalane which you sang in one TV show, and I want to tell you that Rahman sir is sitting here.’ When I saw him, right there near the window, I was shocked… happy… and literally in tears.
”
“From take-off to landing, almost two hours — I was in another world. My heart was racing, hands trembling… I kept asking myself again and again: Is this real, or am I dreaming?” she added.
