The man behind the preservation of many legendary films that our country has ever seen, Celluloid Man Paramesh Krishnan Nair, passed away at Pune on March 4. The founder director of the National Film Archive of India (NFAI), who was under treatment for long, succumbed to cardiac arrest. He was 86.

has played a key role in archiving several films such as Dadasaheb Phalke's
Kaliya Mardan
and Raja Harishchandra, Bombay Talkies films such as
Jeevan Naiya,
Bandhan,
Kangan and
Achhut Kanya, among many others.
When he retired as the director, he had archived almost 12,000 films. He has also preserved international films such as
Ingmar Bergman, Andrzej Wajda, Krzysztof Zanussi, Miklos Jancso, Vittorio De Sica Akira Kurosawa and
Federico Fellini.
Inspired by his life, Shivendra Singh Dungarpur had made a documentary titled Celluloid Man in the year 2012, which later went on to grab many accolades, including two National Awards.
