Following demands for Ranjith's resignation made by members of the general council, fueled by allegations of autocratic behavior, Ranjith stood firm, rejecting calls to step down from his position.

A significant faction of the general council, comprising nine out of 15 members, expressed deep concern over Ranjith's authoritative conduct. Manoj Khana, a council member, highlighted Ranjith's alleged disregard for the council's views and unilateral decision-making, emphasizing that Ranjith's approach doesn't align with the Academy's welfare.

Ranjith, however, dismissed the dissent, attributing it to media speculation. He refuted claims of council meetings against him, asserting that the issues are fabricated and exaggerated. Ranjith remained resolute, stating that there is no intention to resign, while insinuating that any future decision would be communicated directly to the media.

The discord surfaced during the ongoing 28th International Film Festival of Kerala. Earlier, filmmaker Biju resigned from the Kerala State Film Development Corporation, citing Renjith's critical remarks about his film showcased at the festival.

Despite the growing tension, the film festival's proceedings remained unaffected. Renjith received backing from CPI-M state secretary M.V. Govindan, who downplayed concerns, praising Renjith's organizational efforts for the festival.
