After years of anticipation and speculation, the dream of witnessing Randamoozham on the big screen is finally inching closer to reality. In a recent episode of the popular TV show Ormayil Ennum, hosted by actor-director
Ramesh Pisharody, Aswathy Nair, daughter of the legendary writer late M.T. Vasudevan Nair, confirmed that the film adaptation of the iconic novel is officially in the pipeline.
Paying tribute to her father, Aswathy revealed that the project—considered one of MT’s biggest dreams—is being revived. “My father had written the entire screenplay himself. It was one of his most cherished projects. It has to be a cinematic experience Indian cinema has never witnessed before,” she said during the conversation.
According to her, the initial work on the film had begun in 2020, but the COVID-19 pandemic caused unexpected delays. However, she reassured viewers that the project is back on track. “We have entrusted it to someone whom my father personally preferred. The official announcement will be made soon. It’s a massive project and may take about four years to complete,” she added.
This update has rekindled hope among fans and the Malayalam literary community, who have long waited for the novel’s screen adaptation. While earlier rumours suggested that renowned filmmaker
Mani Ratnam might helm the project, Aswathy had earlier denied such claims. More recently, there was speculation that Empuraan director
Prithviraj Sukumaran could collaborate with superstar
Mohanlal for the film, but no official confirmation has been provided yet.
