Raksha Bandhan 2019: 5 movies which portrayed the sibling relationships at its best!

Siblings are known as our first friends, we are raised together and share a more intimate bond, which goes beyond the relationship of a brother and sister. From occasional fights to competitive moments and unconditional love, there is a lot which goes on between a brother and sister. On the silver screen too, this beautiful relationship has been portrayed through several films and here are five movies which celebrate the special bond.

​Pavithram

What if you have a sister when you are about to complete your 20s? TK Rajeev Kumar directed 'Pavithram' is all about the unique relationship between Unni, played by Mohanlal and his sister Meenakshi. Unnikrishnan's mother passes away after giving birth to a baby girl, the siblings have an age difference of about 30 years. Unni even chooses to forget about his lady love and refuses to get married as he has the responsibility to look after his sister. More than a brother, Unni becomes a father to his little sister. The whole movie is about how a man sacrifices his life for his sister.

​Hitler

Siddique directed, 'Hitler' is a story of an over-possessive and over-protective brother, who has five sisters. The whole movie revolves around the brother who tries to lead his sisters through a decent path, as they don't have parents to guide them. The movie discusses how the brother protects his sisters but fails to understand few facts about the girls. The movie progresses as the protagonist, Madhavankutty (who is known locally by his nickname Hitler), struggles through hardships to provide his sisters with a bright future.

​Kaliyoonjal

Following the death of their parents, Nandangopal takes charge of his younger sister, Ammu, who suffers from epilepsy. As Nandan has pampered Ammu a lot, she grows up to become a stubborn lady. Actor Mammootty played Nandan and Shalini essayed the role of his sister. Nandan meets Venu, a well-educated man and wants Ammu to marry him. In order to get the alliance fixed, he marries Venu's sister. Ammu's stubborn character creates problems in her relationship with Venu. The movie further progresses, showing the helplessness of Nandan, as he attempts to assist his sister.

​Valliettan

Raksha Bandhan is not always about celebrating the brother-sister relationship. It is also about sibling love. Shaji Kailas directed 'Valliettan' is a story of Madhavannunni, who is trying to protect his younger brothers. The action drama focuses on the brothers and their fight with relatives. The angry influential big brother protecting his siblings from all the threats, forms the crux of the tale.

​Koode

Anjali Menon directed 'Koode' narrates the story of a brother and sister. This psychological drama features Joshua, played Prithviraj Sukumaran, returning home after his little sister Jenny, played by Nazriya Nazim, passes away. Joshua had to leave his home at the age of 15, to support his sister's medical funds, as she has a congenital disease. All these years, Joshua had little contact with Jenny and her death leaves him with in a mental shock. He starts imagining that she still with him and their unique bond will leave in tears.
