According to the sources, Kerala's prominent film associations have issued a resounding call for a complete ban on cinema reviews within theater complexes, citing the negative effects of ' review bombing' on the Malayalam film industry.
The decision comes in the wake of rising concerns raised by the film fraternity about the practice of 'review bombing,' which has been negatively impacting numerous Malayalam movies, according to the film producers.
The Kerala Film Producers' Association has taken a stance to combat 'review bombing' by introducing strict measures. According to their newly established regulations, only individuals accredited by the Film Producer's Association and possessing substantial expertise in film matters will be permitted to partake in the promotional activities of a movie. Digital marketing teams will also face restrictions to prevent any misuse.
The FEFKA (Film Employees Federation of Kerala) general secretary, B. Unnikrishnan, voiced full support for the producers' decision, emphasizing that it is the producers who invest substantial financial resources in film projects.
This call for a cinema review ban materialized after the director of 'Aromalinte Adyathe Pranayam' and the director of 'Rahel Makan Kora' both filed petitions, alleging concerted efforts to'review bomb' their movies. The Kerala High Court also stepped in to address the issue, recognizing the need to protect the integrity of the film industry.
While these measures are being introduced to counter'review bombing,' recent Malayalam films, such as 'Rahel Makan Kora,' 'Somante Krithavu,' and others, have faced challenges at the box office, despite generating considerable controversy and media attention. Currently, Mammootty’s ‘Kannur Squad’ is the only Malayalam movie that is getting positive reviews and is making wonders at the box office.
