Prithviraj to don multiple get-ups in Karachi ‘81
The first look poster of Prithviraj’s Karachi ’81 that was released on Republic Day caught the attention of many, for its striking visual of the actor’s elder look being shielded by a shredded Pakistani flag. The movie, which is directed by KS Bawa, is set in the aftermath of the 1971 Indo-Pakistan war and is billed as one of the “greatest episodes of espionage” featuring RAW agents from the South.
The look that was revealed in the film isn’t the only one Prithviraj will be donning in the movie. Its director tells us, “This one is of him as an 81-year-old, in a portion of the story. He will be seen in multiple get-ups throughout the movie. He plays a RAW agent.”
Bawa informs that Karachi ’81 is “based on a true story but it’s heavy fictionalised”. The filmmaker, in fact, has been trying to get the project on floors for the past five years. “The reason it’s been delayed is because the film needed to be made on a big scale. We could start work only after all the artistes we needed got onboard and their schedules aligned. The movie has a lot of leading actors, apart from Prithviraj and Tovino, that we will be revealing soon,” says the director, who has also scripted the film.
On when Karachi ’81 will go on floors, Bawa says, “Prithviraj will be busy with Aadujeevitham till September, and then will be working on two smaller projects. We are expecting to start shoot by October end or November. The shoot will predominantly be in India but we will also have schedules outside India. We are also planning to shoot in Karachi, but looking at the current political scenario, we don’t know how viable that will be.”
