Filmmaker R S Vimal has courted controversy for tweaking the story of his movie Ennu Ninte Moideen, which is based on the tragic love story of real life couple Moideen and Kanchanamala. While Prithviraj play Moideen, actress Parvathy dons the role of Kanchanamala, who is the living proof to the actual story. When contacted, a distressed Kanchanamala said, “The story about my life has been tweaked completely and so are the characters to give it more spice.
The script is full of erroneous facts. Vimal, who is also the scribe of the movie, has shown my father in a bad light. My father was a well-known personality in North Malabar and Vimal has characterised him as a ruthless character. I am from a distinguished family and such a portrayal will definitely affect my parents’ reputation and the dignity of our family.” She also added that Vimal is constantly ignoring her pleas to correct the facts.
“During the initial stage of scripting, he had sent me a copy and I found numerous gaffes in the story line. I had pointed out the errors and told him to show the completed work to Didi Damodaran, my niece who is also a scriptwriter. However, Vimal didn’t listen to my suggestions and I came to know that shooting is progressing at a brisk pace. I tried to contact him several times, but he didn’t respond. Finally, I contacted Prithviraj and explained to him the situation. Unfortunately, he has not contacted me till date,” she says.
Kanchanamala’s family is apparently against the idea of making her story into a film. She says, “My family wasn’t interested in making my story into a movie. But I felt I will be able to immortalise Moideen’s dream through this film. Moideen had told me that he wants to write a book on our love story on his 60th birthday. But without fulfiling his dream, he left me. Now I don’t have the strength to make it into a book. So when Vimal approached me with the idea of making a film out of our story, I gave my consent.”
A teary-eyed Kanchanamala said that she is under a lot of stress. “I was on the verge of committing suicide. I loved Vimal like my own son and look what he gave me back.” Meanwhile, Kanchanamala is planning to file a lawsuit against the director. In 2007, Vimal had made a documentary on the love story of the couple called
Jalam Kondu Murivettaal. We tried to contact the director but he didn’t respond till the time of going to press.
