Prithviraj on Tuesday released the first look poster of
Asif Ali’s upcoming film, Maheshum Maruthiyum. The movie, which is directed by
Sethu, is being produced by actor Manianpilla Raju.
The poster has Asif Ali staring at the sunset with his Maruti 800 alongside him. In an earlier interview, Sethu had told us, “In essence, it’s a triangular love story between Mahesh, a girl and a Maruti 800.
Mahesh’s father brings this car in 1983 to his remote hamlet that has limited transportation access and since then he has an emotional attachment to the vehicle and everything in his life is connected to it. In fact, decades later, it’s just the car and himself that has not changed in the village. But then a girl enters his life turning it topsy-turvy.”
On choosing a Maruti 800 as its central character, the scriptwriter-turned-director told us, “Maruti 800 is a thing of nostalgia for a lot of people. It is also weaved into the socio-political fabric of Kerala because before the arrival of that car in 1983, we never had parking sheds for vehicles in our residences; it became a status symbol for us.”
The team is currently busy with its pre-production, with the work on its composing in progress. The team has even procured a Maruti 800 and has done its maintenance. Asif, meanwhile, is also part of Rajeev Ravi’s Kuttavum Shikshayum and will be teaming up debutant director Nishanth Sattu for an upcoming film – the poster and title of which will be announced on Thiruvonam day.
