The much-talked-about Malayalam thriller Pravinkoodu Shappu, which originally hit theaters on January 16, 2025, is now streaming on OTT from April 11, 2025.
Dark humorDirected by Sreeraj Sreenivasan in his directorial debut, the film stars Basil Joseph and Soubin Shahir in lead roles. Set in a quiet village haunted by secrets, the movie blends dark humor with suspense and a gripping murder investigation.
Basil Joseph and Soubin Shahir lead a stellar cast. In ‘Pravinkoodu Shappu,’ Basil Joseph plays police inspector Santhosh, a man determined to crack the mystery behind the murder of Babu, a feared and influential figure in the village. The investigation takes unexpected turns as Santhosh uncovers layers of deception and unspoken village politics. Soubin Shahir plays Kannan, a local toddy shop worker with secrets of his own, adding depth and intrigue to the story.
Supporting cast The film also features a talented ensemble cast, including Chemban Vinod Jose, Chandini Sreedharan, Shivajith, and Shabareesh Varma, each playing key roles that contribute to the unfolding mystery.
Our reviewThe movie is available to stream on the SonyLiv OTT platform, and if you are interested in checking out our review before watching the movie, ETimes gave a solid 2-star rating for the film. Our review reads, “The actors start strong but, just like writer-director Sreeraj Sreenivasan, seem to lose grip in the too-long second half. It’s a shame because the stylistic filmmaking, enhanced by Shyju Khalid’s cinematography—particularly in a chase sequence with a school bus and Kannan’s scooter—Shafeeq Mohammed Ali’s cuts, Vishnu Vijay’s music, Vishnu Govind’s sound, and the quirky characters—reminiscent of KG George’s cult classic Yavanika—could have made it a standout crime drama. Now, it feels more like a whydunnit.”
