Manju Warrier’s Prathi Poovankozhi is the latest Malayalam movie that will be remade in several other languages. According to reports, the Tamil, Telugu, Hindi and Kannada remake rights of the film have been sold.
The film, which released last year, was helmed by
Rosshan Andrrews and scripted by
Unni R. Manju Warrier played a textile shop employee in the movie which marked Rosshan’s debut as an actor. The filmmaker played the movie’s villain. The film revolved around Manju’s character Madhuri trying to exact revenge for being groped by a goon in a bus.
The Bollywood rights of the film has reportedly been snapped up by producer
Boney Kapoor, who had earlier also bought the remake rights of Anna Ben’s Helen. The latter is set to be remade next year with Janhvi Kapoor playing the lead role.
The remake rights of Mollywood films have been much sought-after in the past year with several movies including Ishq, Lucifer, Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Thaneer Mathan Dinangal, Kappela and Driving Licence fetching record prices.
Meanwhile, Rosshan Andrrews’ next film will have Dulquer Salmaan in the lead. The film will have the actor playing a cop and is scripted by award-winning duo Bobby and Sanjay. Manju Warrier, who already has Kayattam, Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham, Chathurangam and Jack & Jill, set for release is currently busy with The Priest. She will then rejoin her brother Madhu Warier's directorial Lalitham Sundaram, before proceeding to starting work on Mahesh Vettiyaar’s Vellarika Pattanam, which also has Soubin Shahir in the lead role.
