Malayalam actor-filmmaker Pratap Pothen passed away on Friday (July 15), at the age of 70. He was reportedly found dead in his apartment in Chennai. Pratap Pothen’s demise has left the entertainment industry devastated.

Pratap Pothen, who debuted in showbiz as an actor, later turned filmmaker. He was undoubtedly an ardent admirer of the magical world of cinema, and his last social media note too was about it. Pratap Pothen is an avid social media user and often shares his opinions, inspiring quotes, his love for films, and other aspects of life on social media. His last social media post went public on Thursday (July 14) evening at 6:38 pm, and it was a quote by American singer-songwriter Jim Morrison. “I think in art, but especially in films, people are trying to confirm their own existences - Jim Morrison,” Pratap Pothen penned.

Pratap Pothen ventured into the world of cinema as an actor with the 1978 Malayalam release ‘Aaravam’, directed by Bharathan. He has acted in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu, movies industries and some of his popular works in Malayalam include ‘Thakara’, ‘Chamaram’, ‘Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai’, ‘Rithubhedam’, and ‘22 Female Kottayam’. Also a filmmaker, Pratap Pothen has helmed films like ‘Rithubhedam’, ‘Daisy’, ‘Oru Yathramozhi’, and ‘Chaitanya’ among others.

Meanwhile, Pratap Pothen’s last release was ‘CBI 5: The Brain’. The film was the fifth installment from the investigative franchise, featuring Mammootty as the iconic Sethurama Iyer, a CBI officer. Pothen essayed the role of Dr. George Abraham in the film, and also had combination scenes with Mammootty.
