Popular action director Jolly Bastian, 57, passes away due to a heart attack

Popular action director Jolly Bastian, known for his work in the South Indian film industry, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, due to a heart attack. He was 57. Jolly Bastian’s untimely demise has left the entertainment industry shattered.

Jolly Bastian, who has been working in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, and Punjabi languages, has choreographed exceptional fight sequences for over 400 films. Some of his popular films include ‘Angamaly Diaries’, ‘Kammattipaadam’, ‘Bangalore Days’, ‘Operation Java’, ‘Masterpiece, ‘Highway’, and ‘Johnnie Walker', among others.

Born on September 24, 1966, in Alappuzha, Jolly Bastian grew up in Bangalore. Jolly Bastian, who was a mechanic, was a motorhead. He began his journey in cinemas as a stunt double for Kannada superstar V Ravichandran. Gradually, he grew to become the most sought-after action director in the Kannada film industry.

Jolly Bastian’s sudden demise has come as a shock to the entire entertainment industry. FEFKA’s Director Union has mourned his loss. Bhavana Studios, too, expressed their sorrow. In a social media note, they said, “In shock and sorrow over the sudden loss of Jolly Bastian, our favorite action director, A true gem and an irreplaceable talent graced Thankam and Premalu. Strength to his family in this difficult time. Rest in peace, Master.”

Actor-producer Vijay Babu expressed, "I will cherish the memories from the Angamaly Diaries, Overtake, and many other works we did together.”

The funeral will be reportedly held on Friday, December 29, in Bangalore.
