Pongal, the harvest festival, is celebrated with great enthusiasm, particularly within the Tamil community. The festival derives its name from the Tamil word meaning'spilling over.’ This year, the Pongal celebrations commence on January 15 and conclude on January 18. The four-day festival kicks off with boiling the season's first rice with milk and jaggery, symbolising prosperity for the upcoming year.

Actress Amala Paul and her husband Jagat Desai celebrated their first Pongal together after the wedding. The newlyweds offered prayers at the temple and also extended wishes. In a note shared on social media, Amala Paul said, “Pongal, the month of Margazhi, holds great significance, marking the transition to brighter days, and symbolises not just agricultural abundance but also spiritual renewal and the awakening of positive energies for a more prosperous life. Actress Meena shared pictures of her observing Pongal along with PM Modi in the capital city.
