A petition seeking a direction to forest officials to seize elephant tusks in the custody of Malayalam actor Mohanlal was filed in the Kerala High Court. The petitioner, All Kerala Anti-Corruption and Human Rights Protection Council, contended that Mohanlal had no authority to keep the tusks as he has no valid license.
Despite this, officials had deliberately failed to seize the tusks, the petitioner said.
Earlier, a petition was filed before the judicial magistrate court at Perumbavoor, about 40 km from here, seeking a direction to seize the tusks. However, the magistrate found no illegality in the forest officials not seizing them.
The petitioner contended that Section 50 of the Wildlife Protection Act provides for an exhaustive procedure to investigate and seize articles.
Last year, Malayatoor forest range officials conducted a search and found four elephant tusks from the actor's houses, it was stated.
The petition is likely to come up before the court tomorrow.
