Ajayan (66), the maker of one of the best classics in Mollywood, Perumthachan, bid adieu to the world today. Son of
Thoppil Bhasi, the director had won National award for his debut movie itself.
As per reports, Ajayan was undergoing treatment for cancer for the past two months. He succumbed to a cardiac arrest at 3.30 pm.
During Perumthachan's shoot Ajayan was bitten by film bug at the age of 10 after reading MT Vasudevan Nair's Manikyakallu.
He then went on to assist legends like
Padmarajan and Bharathan.
Ajayan's dream was to begin his movie career as a director by making a movie based on Manikyakallu and he had also bought rights from MT. Interestingly, it was MT who suggested him to direct Perumthachan first. Unfortunately, his dream project never happened and Perumthachan remains the only film that was made by the talented man. The director then became a recluse.
Ajayan is survived by wife Dr Sushma and daughters Parvathi and Lakshmi.
