Following the successful re-release of the films ‘Devadoothan’, ‘Manichithrathazhu’, and ‘Spadikam’, the
Mammootty starrer suspense drama movie ‘Paleri Manikyam’ was also re-release on October 4. Now the latest reports say that the movie has hardly managed to mint Rs 1 lakh at the box office.
According to the Twitter page Kerala box office, ‘Paleri Manikyam’ has grossed less than Rs 1 lakhs.
With these underwhelming collections, netizens have taken to Twitter and shared their responses on the maker's decision to re-release Ranjith’s directorial.

One netizen Tweeted, “Unwanted re-release #PaleriManikyam!!.” Another commented, “A total of 10 shows are charted for Paleri Manikyam in Trivandrum district. From that, only 2 tickets have been sold so far. They should have gone with Big B or Rajamanikyam Pathetic .”
Another one Tweeted, “What was the need for re-releasing #PaleriManikyam, a recent year non-commercial film! That too second time !” A third commented, ”Really bad choice of film to re-release.”
‘Paleri Manikyam: Oru Pathirakolapathakathinte Katha’ hit the big screens on December 4 2009 and Mammootty played a triple role in this mystery drama movie which was based on a novel of the same name written by TP Rajeevan. Actress Mythili who made her debut in cinema with ‘Paleri Manikyam’, received praise for her performance as the character Manikyam in the movie. Mammootty’s dark-shaded character Murikkinkunnath Ahmed Haaji, is considered one of the best characters the legendary actor played on-screen.
‘Paleri Manikyam’ was based on a true crime story which is said to be the first recorded crime in Kerala. The movie tells the story of Manikyam who was raped and murdered. Shweta Menon also played a pivotal character in the film as Cheeru.
