Among the films released so far in 2025, Asif Ali’s investigation drama movie ‘Rekhachithram’ had held the record for the highest worldwide box office collection. Starring Asif Ali and directed by Jofin T Chacko, the film performed exceptionally well globally. However, in Kerala, a new competitor has emerged—Kunchacko Boban’s ‘Officer On Duty’.
According to Asianet News, currently, ‘Officer On Duty’ has overtaken ‘Rekhachithram’ in Kerala box office collections. While ‘Rekhachithram’ earned Rs 26.85 crore from Kerala, ‘Officer On Duty’ has now reportedly collected Rs 27.5 crore and continues its successful theatrical run.
In third place is Ponman, which has reportedly collected approximately Rs 10.5 crore. ‘Dominic and the Ladies’ Purse’ follows in fourth place with Rs 9.75 crore, according to South Indian box office reports.
Meanwhile, in a public event Asif Ali expressed his gratitude for the entire crew and the audiences in making ‘Rekhachithram’ a superhit. He said, “When they say that out of all the films released in January 2025, ‘Rekhachithram’ was the only successful venture, I must admit that it’s a moment I was dreaming of. I am smiling with pride. Even during my low phase, Ramu John and my favorite Jofin (director) believed in me and gave me this project. Thank you so much for trusting me.”
On the other hand, Kunchacko Boban recently attributed ‘Officer on Duty’s success to wife. In a heartwarming Instagram post, the actor wrote, “Officer On Duty. With His Beauty. I know how much you yearned for this acceptance, my love!! You have been my constant support, critic, friend, tension-breaker, and the biggest fan!!! And this success is more deserving for you!! Love and salute from your officer …or rather, HUSBAND ON DUTY. And a big big thaaank you to each and everyone who made OFFICER ON DUTY the biggie in my life.”
