Vijay Babu, who is taking baby steps in the Malayalam film industry, will be seen playing a school teacher in Shanil Muhammed and Rojin’s Philips and the Monkey Pen. “I play a strict school teacher who becomes the biggest enemy of a student, one of the main characters in the film,” says Vijay. The 15-day shoot for the film, where he got to interact with the kids, was an interesting experience altogether, adds Vijay.
“I was not sure if I could play a teacher, of all people, but it worked.” Vijay will also be doing Rajesh Nair’s Escape from Uganda, where he plays husband to Rima.
And what about the rumour going around that he has got a Midas touch? “Yes, luck seems to have favoured me so far,” he laughs. “My debut,
22 Female Kottayam, was a runaway hit.
Ayalum Njanum Thammil too fared well and Lal Junior’s film, where I play a cop, is also running successfully. I hope it works for my upcoming movies as well.” Vijay says that his long standing ambition to be an actor is finally coming true. “Malayalam cinema doesn’t have too many people to fit the slot of someone of my age and that has helped me,” he says.
