Roshan Basheer might be etched in Malayali minds as the creepy villain in Drishyam, but in his debut in Tamil, he plays an innocent young man whom others take advantage of! In R Radhakrishnan’s Kubera Rasi, Roshan plays a villager who is born in a financially weak family. “I play a ‘pavam’ guy, who sets out to Chennai from Kumbakonam, where he grew up, to try his luck at solving the family’s issues.
On the way, he meets a guy who poses as a friend but who takes advantage of him and uses him,” says Roshan. The crux of the film is a bank robbery, but there are several twists and other thrilling elements as well.
So how does he feel playing a good guy? “My character is the complete opposite of that in Drishyam. But surprisingly, all the offers that I got in Malayalam after
Drishyam were also of such simpletons. I chose this film for the story, which got me hooked,” he says. Thalaivasal Vijay plays Roshan’s father in the film. Abhirami Suresh plays Roshan’s love interest and the female lead.
“Abhirami plays a bank employee who has a crush on me,” says Roshan. The shoot of
Kubera Rasi is over, and will release in August-September.
Meanwhile, Roshan will repeat his role in the Hindi remake of
Drishyam, which has Ajay Devgan playing Mohanlal’s role. And how is his equation with
Mohanlal? “He knows me by name now; that is more than enough for me!” he signs off.
