Ever since its inception,
Jayasurya starrer Njan Marykutty has been in the news.
The film is probably the first to have a trans person as the central character, and Jayasurya would probably be the first mainstream actor to play such a character in a Malayalam film.
The latest is that the trailer of the film will be launched by five transwomen, again a first. The five are Renju Renjimar, make-up artist, Zara Sheikh, IT professional, Thripthy Shetty, entrepreneur, Sheethal Shyam, social activist and Riya, legal advisor, all of whom are Malayalis.
Jayasurya had told Kochi Times earlier in an interview that the film will show transpeople only in a good light, and that it will be a gift to them.
The trailer launch will be held at a prominent mall in Edappally, Kochi, at 9 pm on Sunday. Njan Marykutty, directed by Ranjith Shankar, will hit theatres on June 15.
