Nanjamma is devastated by the director’s passing away, as he was the first one who helped in showcasing Nanjamma’s talent to the world. Nanjamma who is always high-spirited and enthusiastic is now broken.
We had a word with Palaniswamy, who is a friend of Nanjamma and also one of the supporting actors in ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. In a chat with ETimes, Palaniswamy said that they were on their way from Attappady to Kochi, to pay final tributes to the director, who changed their lives.
“Nanjamma is deeply saddened. She was shocked to hear the news yesterday. She is in agony. He has given her and me opportunities and a platform to showcase our talent to the world; the first in fact. He was a good human being. She is speechless, so am I,” Palaniswamy said.
Nanjamma used to be a local singer and collaborated with a local cultural troupe, Azad Kalasangam, headed by Palaniswamy and has staged performances across the world. But it was ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ that rocketed her to fame. She penned a few songs for the movie including the viral songs ‘Daivamakale’ and ‘Kalakkatha Sandana Meram’. The raw and poise voice of Nanjamma and the interesting Irula language attracted the audience and made her popular.
Palaniswamy on the other hand has acted in many movies earlier but Sachy’s directorial ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’ gave him a big break. He essayed the role of a cop in the movie and appeared in the introduction scene with Prithviraj Sukumaran.
