Nadirshah's pet cat dies at veterinary hospital; director alleges medical negligence; details inside
Popular Malayalam filmmaker Nadirshah has filed a police complaint against a veterinary hospital in Ernakulam, alleging medical negligence that led to the death of his beloved Persian cat, Chakkara. The three-year-old pet reportedly died during a routine grooming session, prompting widespread outrage after the director shared the incident on social media.
The Amar Akbar Anthony director stated that the staff initially assured his daughter that the grooming could be done without sedation. However, when she expressed concerns and suggested anaesthesia might be required, the hospital staff allegedly dismissed her worries, saying they had experience handling larger animals.
“They then tied a rope around the cat’s neck and dragged her away,” Nadirshah alleged. “A short while later, they informed us that the cat had died, claiming she suffered a heart attack under anaesthesia. I have filed a formal police complaint.”
Dr. Antony maintained that the dosage given was appropriate and monitored by trained professionals. He added that the cardiac arrest occurred unexpectedly and that a definitive cause of death could only be confirmed through a post-mortem examination.
Police have acknowledged receipt of the complaint and confirmed that further action will depend on the postmortem report.
“Chakkara had been with us for three years”
The complaint was registered with the Palarivattom police. Recalling the incident in a conversation with Manorama Online, Nadirshah said, “Our Persian cat, whom we lovingly called Chakkara, had been with us for three years.
