My film is a realistic investigative thriller: MA Nishad

MA Nishad’s next, Oru Anveshanathinte Thudakkam, is an investigative thriller. The film is inspired from the diary musings of his father PM Kunjumoideen Kutty, a retired DIG. “I grew up in a police environment so I am aware of how it works. But we roped in officers to help guide us and ensure that the investigation looks realistic. There are elements of fiction entwined with real incidents.


The case that the film deals with happens under the Kottayam Crime Branch and we will also see how the crime branch works ,” says Nishad, who is also playing a cop in the film.
The film also has a travel mood to it, according to him. “There are many locations, including Dubai, Punjab, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Tenkasi.”

Shine Tom Chacko plays the role of a journalist who is absconding. “He has done a phenomenal job. I had told him that all I wanted from him is this character, Jeevan Thomas, and he was on the right track from day one.”
The cast of the film includes Vani Viswanath, Swasika, Anumol, Sshivada, Durga Krishna, Prashant Alexander and Irshad. Speaking about the ensemble cast, he says, “Even the small characters have names, identity and introduction. It was a big task during the writing process, but the subject demands it. In the 102 characters that the film has, 62 of them have been essayed by familiar actors.”

Nishad says he was also particular about filming investigative scenes realistically. “I wanted to film the portion where forensic experts collect evidence realistically — what all do they do, how do they collect finger prints, etc. We had a forensic expert and a cop to assist us with that,” he shares.

There are three songs in the film, and all three, Nishad says, are suspenseful. The music of the film has been composed by M Jayachandran. “All three songs are very crucial for the film. Also, the background score, by Manoj Sharrma, and sound design, Binoy Benny, will be the biggest highlights of our film. MR Rajakrishnan has done the audiography.”

Oru Anveshanathinte Thudakkam, bankrolled by KV Abdul Nazar under the banner of Benzy Productions, releases today.
