M'wood not open to all kind of movies: Vishnu Nandan
For Vishnu Nandan, to be a part of the south Indian film industry is a dream come true. Vishnu kickstarted his career as a cinematographer with P Sunil Kumar Reddys Telugu movie Ganguputrulu, where he assisted Sabu James, a faculty of the media institute from where he graduated.
Soon he went on to assist cinematographer Santhosh George Kulangara in a science fiction movie Chandrayaan.

He also did small roles in both these films. Luckily, both Ganguputrulu and Chandrayaan clicked on international and national platforms, which boosted Vishnus profile.
However, Vishnu wanted to gain more experience as a cinematographer. So I took up a couple of independent works for music videos, short films and ads after the first two projects, says Vishnu.
Kaderasams Friendship was his next movie project, where he assisted cinematographer Rajeev Vijay. However, the project did not take off. It was at this time that he went on to do a cameo in K S Bavas Idiots where he played Sanushas ex-boyfriend, who is also a playboy.
However, for Vishnu cinematography remains his first love. What upsets this youngster is that the Malayalam film audience is not open to all kinds of movies. The scenario is quite unlike in other film industries, says Vishnu, who feels it is Rajesh Pillais Traffic which brought about a change in Mollywood as far as cinematography is concerned. It opened gates for many aspiring cinematographers in the industry.
Three years back, an entry into films was based on your experience and contacts, but now people encourage you even if you dont have any previous experience, which is indeed a positive development, says Vishnu.
