The first half of the film Basheerinte Premalekhanam, that has a duration of 2 hours 9 minutes, in total, has all things vintage, sans the old world charm.
The movie is set in the eighties in a small village in Kozhikode, Kerala, which witnesses the arrival of its first TV. This might flood the Malayalam audience with a sense of déjà vu.
TV and it's magic also become elementary in sowing the seeds of love between Suhra (
Sana Althaf) and Basheer (
Farhaan Faasil), while
Sheela and
Madhu also a play a couple in the movie.
However, the over dosage of the theatrical performance and eighties style dialogues make the film a bit too silly at times.
Sheela's performance and character is highly reminiscent of her role in Manasinakkare.
So far, the movie is no different from any commonplace love stories of the eighties. Will it have anything different to offer post the intermission?
