cinema made many headlines this week. From 'Drishyam 2' update to Vidhu Vincent’s resignation from WCC, here’s a look at what made news in Mollywood this week.

‘Drishyam 2’ update

Jeethu Joseph announced ‘Drishyam 2’ a sequel to the 2013 movie, during the lockdown. Mohanlal will be reprising Georgekutty in the movie. And recent reports suggest that the movie will go on floors by mid-August. If the situation doesn’t worsen further, the team will start filming by August 21. The sequel will feature what happens to the family after the incident and how they cope up with the trauma.

Unfruitful AMMA meeting

Last Sunday, the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) called a meeting to discuss various issues including producers association's request of cutting the remuneration of actors by 50%, the resuming of film shoots, and the allegations about not considering fresh talents and young actors. But the venue for the meeting was at a containment zone and was interrupted in between and the meeting went in vain.

Vidhu Vincent resigned from WCC

‘Manhole’ filmmaker Vidhu Vincent resigned from Women in Cinema Collective (WCC) and cited ‘personal’ and ‘political’ grounds during the resignation. But a few days later, she spoke in length about the resignation and alleged that the organization has double standards. Vidhu also alleged that the organization was upset and asked her to submit an explanation, as the filmmaker has collaborated with B Unnikrishnan (FEFKA General Secretary) for a project. A few days later, WCC dismissed Vidhu’s allegations, acknowledged her work, but said that the ‘slander was unfortunate’.

Stephy Xavior and Geetu Mohandas’ bitter exchange

Following Vidhu Vincent’s post, Stephy Xavior, a costume designer alleged that a celebrated member of WCC and a lady filmmaker treated her ill and didn’t give her the credit or payment she deserved for a movie that was screened at many international film festivals. Although Stephy Xavior didn’t reveal names, an actress, model and associate director Aisha Sultana, claimed that the celebrated filmmaker is none other than Geetu Mohandas. A couple of days later, Geetu Mohandas decided to break her silence about the allegations. She dismissed the allegations and said that Maxima Basu was the costume designer for her movie ‘Moothon’, and when the designer went for maternity leave, they had a small portion pending and that’s when the filmmaker asked Stephy to step in, but the filmmaker wasn’t happy with the results, so they separated ‘amicably’.

Actors Roshan Mathew and Darshana Rajendran have been roped in to play the other parts. As per the filmmaker, the movie revolves around these three characters. The movie will have a duration of 90-minutes, and the team is planning to release the trailer soon.
