'Kathanar – The Wild Sorcerer' is a forthcoming Malayalam-language period fantasy thriller directed and edited by Rojin Thomas, with a screenplay by R. Ramanand. The film, set to be released in two parts, unfolds the tale of Kadamattathu Kathanar, a legendary 9th-century Christian priest endowed with magical powers. Jayasurya takes on the titular role, while
Anushka Shetty makes her Malayalam debut in this ambitious cinematic endeavor.
Reportedly mounted on a budget of Rs 75 crore, the film is scheduled to hit screens in 2024. Director Rojin Thomas has described it as a "period fantasy thriller," promising an immersive cinematic experience. The filmmakers are not only releasing the original Malayalam version but also planning to launch the film in multiple dubbed languages, including English, Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, Bengali, Kannada, Chinese, French, Korean, Italian, Russian, Indonesian, and Japanese.
