Mohanlal’s 2007 blockbuster Chotta Mumbai, directed by Anwar Rasheed, is gearing up for a re-release, much to the excitement of fans. The film, where Mohanlal delivered an iconic performance as Vasco da Gama, remains a cult favorite among moviegoers.
The news was confirmed by Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju, son of the film’s producer Maniyanpilla Raju, in response to a fan’s query on Instagram about a possible 4K re-release. A screenshot of this exchange has since gone viral on social media, fueling anticipation.
The fan’s question reads, “Bro, we want the Chhota Mumbai re-release. The craze for the movie is just unbelievable. Please, please, we want a 4K re-release.” Actor Niranj Maniyanpilla Raju responded to this by saying, “That’s also happening.”
Earlier, the actor-producer Maniyanpilla Raju confirmed that there will be no re-release for ‘Chotta Mumbai’ during the promotional event for the horror film ‘Gu.’. He said that he is interested in doing new projects, and he doesn’t wish to revisit old ones. During the promotional event, he said, “The past is past, and I always wish to take up fresh ventures rather than taking up old ones."
Meanwhile, recently Niranj cleared rumors about his father Maniyanpilla Raju’s health issues. Talking to Manorama Online, the actor said, “My father is doing well now. We’ve seen some comments claiming that he is critically ill, but we don’t have the time to address every baseless rumor. He was battling throat cancer, and naturally, his thyroid levels fluctuate due to the chemotherapy and radiation, which contributed to his weight loss. It takes time—about six months—for the skin in the mouth and throat to heal. Once that happens, he’ll be able to enjoy his favorite foods again and gradually regain weight."
