Mohanlal: Let's make our spaces friendly for those on wheelchairs

Mohanlal's mother was recently confined to the wheelchair
In his latest blog, actor Mohanlal has spoken for those on wheelchairs.

He starts his blog remembering Stephen Hawking who passed away recently, and goes on to talk about a friend, a doctor, who is confined to the wheelchair. "He told me once, do you know how life is in a wheelchair? We can't go to places of worship as the steps are too high. We can't get on to trains from platforms. To get on to a stage, someone has to carry us. We can't watch a movie in a theatre. Society doesn't consider people like us. We spend our days in the wheelchair, watching free birds with longing,'' he wrote.

Mohanlal's mother was recently confined to the wheelchair, and he feels pained that his mother has to live through the same situation, he writes. "We progress culturally and spiritually, not when they think only about themselves, but when they look at the world around, and take care of those weaker than him. We ignore the helplessness of the person next to us and hurry by, today. Our public spaces are built only for the majority. They are also humans. Let us create facilities for those in wheelchairs as well."

The request is not from Mohanlal the actor, but from a son for the sake of his mother, he concludes. "Let them also see the beauty of this world.''
