Merin Philip, who was
Kalidas Jayaram’s heroine in the 2019 film Happy Sardar, has been bagging a couple of interesting offers of late.
Merin is part of the upcoming anthology named Eeyal, in which she will be playing one of the major characters of a segment. She reveals, “I play a traditional Tamil girl named Rani in the film. She is a village girl, based out of Munnar and that’s where we shot the film too.
The character has a lot of scope for performance and that’s why I went for it.”
She also has the

Anu Sithara movie Vaathil coming up, alongside another Tamil thriller film, in which she plays the character of a techie. “At the moment I can’t speak more about the characters in these films, but they too are the kind of roles that offer me a performance space, regardless of their length. I am an artiste who cares the most about an opportunity to showcase some performance, regardless of how promising the entire story of the film sounds, the length of my characters or whether they are lead roles,” says Merin.
The actress, who has been a theatre artiste from the age of 14, is someone who has trained under renowned names like
National Award winner director Suveeran, Babu Annoor and James Elia. The artiste, who hails from Anchal in Kollam, says she is soon shifting to Kochi to try out more opportunities to improve her craft, through workshops and more. “I grew up in Abu Dhabi and that’s where I tried out theatre for the first time. I continued it through the years till I moved to Kerala a few years ago,” says Merin, who holds a post -graduation degree in journalist. “Now, my heart belongs entirely to acting. You can’t predict how a role would turn out to be, but I want to do my best to do justice to the characters that come my way,” Merin says, signing off.
