Actor Unni Mukundan has officially announced that the much-anticipated sequel to ‘Marco’ will not be happening.
“Too much negativity around the project”The update came through his Instagram handle, where a fan asked, “Marco 2 kab ayegi?” Responding to the query, the actor wrote,“Bro, apologies but I have dropped plans to continue the Marco series. Too much negativity around the project. I’ll try my best to bring something bigger and better than Marco. Thanks for all the love and positivity. Cheers.”
The revelation comes as a disappointment to fans who were eagerly awaiting the continuation of the crime thriller, which had emerged as a box office success.
Unni Mukundan’s response was shared on a post where he was seen working out, captioned, “Ok, one more time! #Reminder,” indicating that he is preparing for a new role or project despite the 'Marco' sequel being shelved.
Criticism over violence played a roleWhile ‘Marco’, directed by Haneef Adeni, was a commercial hit, the film drew significant criticism for its graphic violence and dark themes. The backlash appears to have contributed to Unni Mukundan’s decision to move away from the project.
Earlier, veteran actor Jagadish, who played the antagonist Tony Isaac in the film, had also commented on the controversy surrounding the film's themes. At a press event, he stated, “The question is, do audiences like the character or Jagadish as a person?”
He further added, “In Marco, my character Tony Isaac supports violence. But does the audience like Tony Isaac or Jagadish? If it’s Jagadish they like, then let me be clear—I have never spoken in favor of violence.”
Unni hints at a bigger project aheadDespite the setback, Unni Mukundan’s latest post suggests he is already focused on a new journey. On the other hand, Unni Mukundan’s previous outing was ‘Get Set Baby’.
