Known for her knack for portraying relatable motherly characters, Manju Pillai was almost cast in a pivotal role in the film. However, due to scheduling conflicts, the role eventually went to actress Saritha Kukku.

During an exclusive interview with ETimes, Saritha Kukku shared insights into her experience taking over the role originally intended for Manju Pillai. Saritha plays Rajalakshmi, a bold and strong mother character in 'Mandakini.' She revealed the initial hesitation she felt stepping into a role that was designed with Manju Pillai's persona in mind.

"Manju Pillai was originally slated for the role, but I ultimately embraced the opportunity," Saritha shared. "When Manju had to withdraw due to scheduling conflicts and I was offered the part, I couldn't help but feel apprehensive. The makers initially envisioned the character in a manner reminiscent of Manju's figure and mannerisms. Being cast in her role, I questioned whether I could meet the audience's expectations and fill her shoes, given our contrasting physical appearances and acting styles."

Saritha also underwent a physical transformation for the role, gaining weight to better fit the character's profile. "I was very doubtful about whether I would be able to play a character that is older than my real age. But after the first shot, all my doubts were laid to rest," she added, expressing relief and satisfaction with her performance.
