Mammootty’s classic 'Aavanazhi’ set for 4K re-release

Following the 4k re-release of 'Palerimanikyam', Mammootty’s classic ‘Aavanazhi’ is set for a big-screen return on January 3rd, 2025. The action drama, originally released in 1986, was the first Malayalam film to complete 25 days of regular shows across 20 theatres and ran for over 100 days. Directed by IV Sasi and written by T Damodaran, it featured Mammootty as the iconic police character Balram. While ‘Palerimanikyam’s re-release saw lukewarm reception, fans eagerly await ‘Aavanazhi’ in high definition.

Following the re-release of Ranjith’s directorial ‘Palerimanikyam’, another Mammootty’s classic is getting ready for a 4k re-release.

The Malayalam classic action drama movie ‘Aavanazhi’ which earns the title of being the first Malayalam movie to complete 25 days in regular shows across 20 theatres and continued the theatrical run for over 100 days, is all set for its return to the big screens in 4k.

The makers have announced the re-release date for ‘Aavanazhi’ which is scheduled for January 3rd, 2025. Marking the return of this classic movie after a long gap of 38 years, the audiences are eagerly waiting to witness the directorial prowess of IV Sasi on the big screens along with Mammootty’s iconic police character Balram.
The screenplay of ‘Aavanazhi’ was penned by the writer T Damodaran and the movie hit the big screens on September 12, 1986. The movie had its remake which was titled ‘Inspector Balram’ and hit the big screens in the year 1991.

Unfortunately, the third part ‘Balram vs. Tharadas’, which hit the big screens in 2006, with Katrina Kaif in the female lead, flopped at the box office. The third part was also directed by the veteran IV Sasi with the script penned by T Damodaran and SN Swamy.
On the other hand, Mammootty’s ‘Palerimanikyam’ re-release was met with an underwhelming welcome from the audience. The re-release hardly managed to mint Rs 1 lakh at the box office with several criticisms from the audiences questioning the rewatchable factor of the Mammootty starrer.
Looking ahead, Mammootty has the most awaited action thriller ‘Bazooka’ in the pipeline.
