Mammootty received the honorary Doctor of Letters (D.Litt) degree for his remarkable contribution to cinema and culture. The university also honoured renowned nadaswaram artist Thiruvizha Jayashankar and vascular surgeon N Radhakrishnan during the same event. Speaking after receiving the honour, Mammootty shared a heartfelt message on social media. “Humbled to have received the Honorary D.Litt. from Mahatma Gandhi University today, presented by the Honourable Governor of Kerala. Third Doctorate marks another milestone in Mammootty’s career
