breathed his last early in the morning today at his home in Palluruthi, Kochi. He was 84. Since then, M Town has been deeply mourning the great musician’s demise.

In a career spanning over five decades, the talented music composer composed the tunes for about 1000 songs in over 200 films. His compositions in collaboration with lyricist Sreekumaran Thampi made the golden era of Mollywood shine brighter.

Begining his career in films with the 1968 movie ‘Karutha Pournami’, Arjunan Master has composed some timeless creations for Malyalam cinema. In his early days in the industry, he worked as a Harmonium player for the veteran music composer late Devarajan Master.

Arjunan Master’s golden melodies include ‘Padatha Veenayum Paadum’ (Rest House -1969), ‘Kasthoori Manakkunnallo’ (Picnic - 1975), ‘Aayiram Kaatham Akaleyanenkilum’ (Harshabashpam -1977), ‘Naalikerathinte Nattilenikkoru’ (Ore bhoomi ore raktham - 1964) among others. However, it took him nearly five decades to win a Kerala State award. In 2018, he bagged the state award for best music composition for Jayaraj's directorial 'Bhayanakam'. Also, it was Arjunan Master, who identified the talented AR Rahman.

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has mourned the loss of the veteran music composer. Actors Mohanlal and Mammootty also expressed their grief.
