On July 26, 1999, the Indian Army announced the successful culmination of "Operation Vijay", declaring victory after a nearly three-month-long battle on the icy heights of Kargil in Ladakh. Every year, this day is observed as 'Kargil Vijay Diwas' to commemorate India's victory over Pakistan in the war.
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, M-Town celebrities including Mammootty, Mohanlal, Major Ravi, and others paid tribute to the martyrs.
Mammootty took to his social media handle and said, “Let's pay homage to the brave soldiers who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty to protect the honour of our great nation. We salute their bravery and will forever be indebted to them & their families. #KargilVijayDiwas #KargilVijayDiwas2022.”
Superstar Mohanlal too took a moment to pay tributes to the brave soldiers. “23 years have gone by since the Indian Armed Forces brought home victory from Kargil. It has been an honor living the legacy of the brave fallen lives that will forever continue to inspire us. Jai Hind! #KargilVijayDiwas2022,” he tweeted.
Filmmaker Major Ravi, who is a retired officer of the Indian Army and former National Security Guard commando said, “Salute my brothers in uniform.,and souls who left us behind to enjoy life in peace.... Salute to the Martyrs of Kargil battle... salute to the families who are holding themselves after a great loss… all for our country… Jaihind.”
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted, “Kargil Vijay Diwas is a symbol of pride and glory of 'Maa Bharati'. On this occasion, my salute to all the brave sons of the country who achieve the height of valour in the defence of the motherland. Jai Hind,” saluting the martyrs.
