Nivin Pauly's latest comedy-drama, ‘Malayalee from India,’ continues to grapple with challenges at the box office.

As the film enters its 11th day since release, according to the Sacnilk website, it has garnered a mere Rs 27 lakhs, indicating a lackluster performance for Dijo Jose Antony’s directorial.

Released on May 1, the movie, directed by Dijo Jose Antony, promised an engaging narrative centered around the journey of an unemployed young man forced to embark on a life-altering expedition away from his home. However, despite its intriguing premise, the film seems to have struggled to connect with audiences, reflected in its underwhelming box office figures.

‘Malayalee from India’ has collected Rs 9.97 crores from Indian net collections, with a worldwide total of Rs 15.47 crores. While the Indian gross collections stand at Rs 11.47 crores, overseas earnings amount to Rs 4 crores.

Meanwhile, ‘Malayalee from India’ has stepped into controversy as scriptwriter Nishad Koya has come forward, alleging striking resemblances between the storyline of the Nivin Pauly starrer and a script he authored back in 2021. Just a day before the film's release, Nishad Koya took to social media, particularly Facebook, to voice his grievances, providing a detailed outline of the plotline he claims bears uncanny similarities to his own work.

Starring Nivin Pauly, Manju Pillai, and Dhyan Sreenivasan in the lead, ‘Malayalee from India’ is the third directorial venture of Dijo Jose Antony.
