Popular Malayalam playback singer Thoppil Anto passed away on Saturday (Dec 5), due to age-related ailments. He was 81. He breathed his last at his residence in Edapally.
Thoppil Anto who began his career with theatre ventured into movies during the 1970s. In his career span of over five decades, he has worked as both playback singer and composer in movies.

He has lend his voice for over 1000s of theatre dramas, and several movies. Some of his popular songs were from the film like ‘Father Damien’, ‘Anubhavangale Nandi’, ‘Sneham Oru Pravaham’, and ‘Veenapoovu’ among others. He has also won several accolades including the Kerala Sangeetha Nataka Academy award for light music in 1982, the Pravasi Pranava Dhwani Puraskar in 2010, and the Changampuzha Samskarika Kendram award.
Meanwhile, one of his most recent works was in the 2017 release ‘Honey Bee 2’, for which, he crooned, ‘Nerane Nummade Kochi’ along with Peethambar Menon.



M-Town celebs including filmmaker Vinayan, actor Nadirshah, mourned the demise of the singer.
