Malavika Nair grabs a plum role in Dafedar
Remember the child artiste who played the visually-challenged little girl in Karutha Pakshikal? Malavika Nair, who played the character is now acting in the lead role for the first time in a film.
The plus-two student will be the heroine of the film 'Dafedar', directed by Johnson Estappan.
'I wasn't planning to do a film at this point but the script was so wonderful that I couldn't say no,' says Malavika, who plays the character of a young home nurse in the film.

'Her name is Amala, and everyone calls her Amy. She arrives as home nurse to a retired dafedar, played by Tini Tom. Before long, a special bond develops between the two. He starts considering her a daughter.'
The movie thus revolves around the relationship between the old man and the young girl and has a 'mixture of humour, sentiments and more,' says Malavika. It was originally planned with Kalabhavan Mani in the title character, but the unexpected demise of the actor led to the project going on hold for a while, till Tini Tom was roped in.
Ask her how it was to play a matured role and she says, 'More than that, I was playing a modern girl for the first time, and found that challenging. Amy, though the youngest in the household, behaves like the oldest, bossing everyone around. But they all love her and she cares for them deeply.'
