M-Town directors smitten by the production bug

It���s been an interesting year as far as directors are concerned in Mollywood, with several auteurs venturing into production. Amal Neerad, Lal Jose, Sugeeth, Ranjith Shankar, Aashiq Abu, Shafi, Rafi and Kamal have already started their production houses and have multiple projects lined up as well.
Interestingly, most of directors who are turning producers have also chosen to finance other directors; for instance, Shafi and Rafi will be producing Ordinary director Sugeeth���s movie, while Sugeeth himself will be producing Rajesh Pillai���s Motorcycle Diaries. Amal will be working with Anwar Rasheed, Samir Tahir, Shyju Khalid and Aashiq Abu, who, incidentally, is producing his own movie Da Thadiya.
Sohanlal���s Kathaveedu is the latest such project with Mayamohini director Jose Thomas taking the mantle of producer. The film will also see literary great M T Vasudevan Nair take up a new role of a script supervisor. When a flick comprises four novels of three literary greats such as M T, Vaikom Mohammed Basheer and Madhavikutty, it���s only apt that M T oversees how the project turns out.
About the film with Kunchacko Boban as the lead, Sohanlal says, "Kunchacko���s character as a young bachelor binds the movie which narrates the character���s take on marriage. He travels to three houses each with a couple and witnesses the light moments and pros and cons of the husband-wife relationship. These instances ultimately let him decide about his marriage.��� The happenings in each house are taken from stories penned by the three writers. Kunchacko���s character is taken from one of M T���s novel.
���The concept for such a story merger was M T���s. Now, after seeing the script, he has agreed to supervise the scripting side as well,��� says Sohanlal. Apart from Kunchacko, the flick has an ensemble cast featuring Lal, Biju Menon, Manoj K Jayan, Kavya Madhavan and Mythili.
