'Lokah ending explained; Dulquer Salmaan and Tovino Thomas' characters unveiled; post-credit scenes tease a larger universe
'Lokah: Chapter 1 – Chandra', directed by Dominic Arun has taken Malayalam cinema into new territory with its dark fantasy superhero flavor.
The film shows a different kind of Yakshi which is not the fearsome one we have heard in folklore. It makes her a protector figure with superhuman powers. Through Chandra aka Kalliyankattu Neeli, Kalyani Priyadarshan becomes the first female superhero in Mollywood or even in Indian cinema.
The ending explained
The climax sees Chandra taking down Nachiyappa, the ruthless leader of an organ trafficking ring. But even after the victory, Chandra realizes her existence is far from normal. She bids farewell to Sunny (Naslen) and his friends. In an emotional conversation, Kalyani reveals that her powers make her both a savior and an outsider. “If an anomaly were to happen, I will return,” she says, leaving the door open for future battles while finding peace in her identity as Neeli.
Post-credit scenes build the 'Lokah' universe
Did you miss anything in the end? Well, the movie hints at an interesting link with Tovino Thomas starrer 'ARM'.
The end credits take a darker turn, teasing Tovino Thomas’s Chathan. Interrogated about an archaeological dig gone wrong, his goblin-like character hints at deeper, more dangerous layers of the Lokah universe. Tovino Thomas' Chathan character, during the interrogation, says, "It could be me... or one of my 389 siblings. We all look alike." This hints at a bigger universe and also connections with ARM which also ended on an ambiguous note.
