The 50th Kerala State Film Awards was announced on Tuesday by Cultural minister AK Balan and maverick filmmaker
Lijo Jose Pellissery bagged the award for best direction for his movie '
Jallikattu'! This is the second time Lijo Jose Pellissery is winning the best direction award. The filmmaker has earlier won the award for ‘Ee. Ma. Yau’.
Released on October 4, 2019, ‘Jallikattu’ is a man vs beast movie. The movie narrates the story of a buffalo that runs amok after escaping from the butcher house to save its life. The movie draws light into the savagery of men and how the ‘human’ transforms into a beast in no time. The movie offered an edge of their seat experience to the audience and it also won several international acclaims. ‘Jallikattu’ was was showcased at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival and also at the 24th Busan International Film Festival.
Directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, ‘Jallikattu’ featured Antony Varghese Pepe, Chemban Vinod Jose, Sabumon Abdusamad, and Santhy Balachandran in pivotal roles. The movie was based on a story by S Hareesh, while S Hareesh and R Jayakumar have crafted the screenplay. Thomas Panicker is the producer of the movie. Girish Gangadharan's magnificent frames captured the whole disorientation happening around, making it a compelling watch. Deepu Joseph has edited the film, while Renganaath Ravee has managed the sound design.
Cultural minister AK Balan announced the awards by 12 pm. Ace cinematographer Madhu Ambat is the jury chairman, while filmmakers Salim Ahmed and Abrid Shine, cinematographer Vipin Mohan, editor L Bhoominathan, sound engineer S Radhakrishnan, playback singer Lathika, actress Jomol, writer Benyamin and Chalachithra Academy member secretary C Ajoy were the other jury members in the panel.
