Late filmmaker Sachy wanted to remake ‘Thoovanathumbikal’

It has been a year since scenarist-filmmaker Sachy passed away. June 18 marks the first anniversary of his remembrance. From quitting his job as a successful lawyer to pursuing cinema, Sachy was truly meant to be in the entertainment industry. The late filmmaker was interested in theatre and cinema from his teenage years and it’s no surprise that he grew up watching some exceptional Malayalam movies. ’. The movie has influenced him a lot, like any other cinephile. But did you know Sachy had plans to remake the film?

Yes, that’s right! Sachy was very much touched by the Mohanlal-Sumalatha starrer and wanted to remake the film. In a recent chat with a news channel, the late filmmaker’s wife divulged about the same. She shared that Sachy wanted to recreate ‘Thoovanathumbikal’. Although she shared about Sachy's wish to remake the film, it's unclear who were the actors which the late filmmaker wanted to cast.

Meanwhile, after Sachy’s untimely demise his close friend actor Prithviraj Sukumaran too has hinted about the same. Prithviraj shared a screengrab of his chat with Sachy, wherein they have exchanged a template that had an iconic dialogue from ‘Thoovanathumbikal’.

Directed by the legendary filmmaker Padmarajan, ‘Thoovanathumbikal’ is a movie that has redefined womanhood, love, and lust. The central characters Clara (Sumalatha) and Jayakrishnan (Mohanlal) became iconic and even 33 years after its release, the movie continues to entertain and intrigue the cinephiles.

On the other hand, Sachy’s last film was ‘Ayyappanum Koshiyum’. He donned the director’s cap for the film and it featured Prithviraj Sukumaran and Biju Menon in lead roles. The movie was a blockbuster and Bollywood star John Abraham has bagged the Hindi remake rights of the film.
