5 Best moments from Mammootty’s CBI series

If the Hollywood film industry has the famous Sherlock Holmes detective character, then Mollywood has its own highly intellectual investigation officer Sethurama Iyer. When the writer SN Swamy molded the brilliant investigator Sethurama Iyer, it was the legendary actor Mammootty who breathed life into the character. Spanning over 4 movies in the CBI series, there are several iconic moments in those films that make the CBI series unique from any other investigation films out there. While we wait for the fifth and final installment of the famous CBI series, let's take a look at the 5 best moments from Mammootty’s CBI series.

The dummy investigation technique used in the first part of the CBI franchise- ‘Oru CBI Diary Kurippu’ is undoubtedly one of the memorable moments from the whole franchise. This technique was used in the film by Sethurama Iyer to solve the mysterious suicide case of Omana, the daughter-in-law of a businessman. This dummy scene coupled with that iconic background score simply lifts the whole mystery mood.

The third part of the CBI franchise named ‘Sethurama Iyer CBI’ was released in 2004. This part could be considered as the best among the franchise as it had an intelligent and gripping story coupled with some best moments. The climax twist reveal of this film was something that the audience never saw coming and would stand high as one of the best surprise endings of all time in Malayalam cinema history.

Another best moment from the CBI franchise is this ‘Isow- Mosi’ revelation scene from the third part titled ‘Sethurama Iyer CBI’. In the film a criminal nicknamed Isow gets arrested as his name was written in blood by a businessman named Manikkunju who gets murdered. Sethurama Iyer, with his intelligent tactics, finds out that the word Isow was actually written backward and it originally read Mosi, who is another woman. This vital clue twists the story in another interesting direction. Kudos to the brilliant writer SN Swamy.

The first entry of the brilliant officer Sethurama Iyer is indeed one of the best moments in the CBI franchise. In the first part titled ‘Oru CBI Diary Kurippu’, director K Madhu brilliantly introduces the character Sethurama Iyer to the audience with subtle movements and a slow-paced background track which makes the audience understand that he is a highly intelligent officer but not actually a tough cop.

Throughout the CBI franchise, Mammootty’s character Sethurama Iyer is shown as a calm man with less violent behavior. But in the third part of the series titled ‘Sethurama Iyer CBI’, he loses his cool and gives a much-needed punch to a police officer named Sathyadas. This scene was something unexpected to happen from a calm man like Sethurama Iyer and is one of the best moments in the film. This particular punch scene is also used as a meme nowadays on social media.
