Kerala State Film Awards 2019: Interesting facts about the Best Actress winner Nimisha Sajayan

The 49th Kerala State Film Awards has honoured the best artists from Malayalam cinema in the state. With just five films to her credit, actress Nimisha Sajayan bagged the most prestigious Best Actress award. After making her debut with Dileesh Pothan's 'Thondimuthalum Drikshakshiyum,' the actress went on achieving the Best Actress award when she reached her fifth film. Coming all the way from Mumbai to Kerala, pursuing a career in the Malayalam film industry, competing with stars who had been in cinema for long years and winning the Best Actress award is no cake walk. The actress had to work hard to perform every character she committed to. Here are the lesser known facts about Nimisha Sajayan that might interest you.

Bombay girl

Nimisha Sajayan was born to Malayali parents who brought her up in Mumbai. She was initially worried about getting into the Malayalam film industry, as she wasn't the proper Keralite. Because of having working parents, she used to not get much time to communicate in Malayalam with them. She became fluent in Hindi and Marathi.

After auditioning, she bagged her debut film, 'Thondimuthalum Drikshakshiyum’. As her father was a great admirer of Malayalam cinema, Nimisha always had the dream to pursue a career in the South cinema. So when she saw an audition call for 'Thondimuthalum Drikshakshiyum’, she applied for the role. Director Dileesh Pothan called her for the audition after seeing her photographs. But after realising that she can't speak Malayalam, the team thought twice before finally selecting her. Actress Srindaa dubbed for her in the film.

3/5

Young and dynamic

When Nimisha Sajayan did her first movie, 'Thondimuthalum Drikshakshiyum,' she was just a college-going girl. She has just joined the college, after completing her higher secondary education. The character she played in the film was beyond her age. The young actress was apparently nothing in common with the character of Sreeja she played in 'Thondimuthalum Drikshakshiyum.'

Filmmaker Dileesh Pothan asked Nimisha to study how the locals respond to things and asked her to imbibe that to her character. The preparation made her apt for the character. The actress is doing her graduation in Mass Communication currently. The characters she played on screen were very mature characters like Sreeja, Aishwarya, Clara and Hanna Elizabeth.

4/5

The Draupadi

Movies are basically an array of moving pictures. A picture could speak thousands and in some instances, the emotion it builds in the minds of the viewers is much stronger than any other art form. Actress Nimisha Sajayan is an actress who values that concept. So when she was asked for a shoot of photostory, she delightfully accepted. Like her films, the actress played the character she was given, flawlessly. The photo story titled ‘Draupadi,’ crafted by Cyril Syriac spoke about the vengeance of a mother, whose daughter was killed by a Paedophile. Each and every frame of the story was so intense that each and every moment got fiercer.

5/5

Best Actress

Actress Nimisha Sajayan grabbed the limelight for the first time with her appearance in 'Thondimuthalum Driksaakshiyum.' The actress has now bagged the Best Actress award for her performance in movies like 'Chola' and 'Oru Kuprasidha Payyan.'

According to 'Chola' director, Sanal Kumar Sasidharan, the realistic movie was crafted for the ‘matured Malayali audience.’ The movie had a simple thread to discuss. It discussed the incidents that happen with a couple who was out for a vacation. The movie had three lead characters and showed the interaction between them under some particular circumstances.

In 'Oru Kuprasidha Payyan', she played Hanna Elizabeth, who is an advocate. Her ways of using unique mannerisms with each character and her willingness to accept characters, that offers an opportunity to perform, has made her win the most prestigious award at the Kerala State Film awards 2019.
